文章摘要
This paper explores the redemptive power of literary creation in Ian McEwan’s Atonement, focusing on Briony Tallis’ lifelong narrative practice as a concrete manifestation of moral courage. Briony transforms from a fantasy-driven child to an elderly writer. As a child, she misconceives reality through writing. In old age, she uses narrative to confront guilt, compensate for regrets and reconcile with herself. This study analyzes her transformation. It argues that literary creation is not only a carrier of her atonement but also a bold act of moral courage. This reflects her active choice to face mistakes, take responsibility and uphold humanistic values. It further reveals the profound connection between literary narrative and moral growth, enriching the understanding of the theme of redemption in Atonement.
