Research Progress of Polypropylene Materials in Power Cable Applications

This paper reviews the recent advances in the application of polypropylene (PP) materials in power cable applications, with a focus on their properties and advantages, the development and application of PP-insulated power cables, material modification and performance enhancement, as well as current challenges and future research directions. Owing to their excellent chemical resistance, heat resistance, abrasion resistance, and environmental friendliness, PP materials are emerging as a promising alternative for power cable insulation. Significant progress has been made in the development of medium-voltage and low-to-medium-voltage PP-insulated power cables, with notable performance improvements achieved through material modification and process optimization. However, challenges such as insufficient high-temperature compatibility of blended materials and uneven dispersion of nanofillers remain to be addressed. Future research should prioritize the development of copolymer monomers with balanced electrical and mechanical properties, as well as the optimization of integrated production lines and crystallization processes. These efforts will provide crucial theoretical support and technical assurance for the widespread application of PP materials in power cables.
