This article has sorted out the origin, development process and research status quo of ecolinguistics, clarified the existing problems and pointed out the direction for its development. The study found that the in-depth thinking conducted by early linguists around language diversity and the relationship between language and the environment laid a solid foundation for the rise of ecolinguistics. Since the 1970s, the influential "Haugen Paradigm" and "Halliday Paradigm" in the field of ecolinguistics research have gradually taken shape. At present, the research on ecolinguistics shows a development trend of continuously expanding regions, converging paradigms, and diversifying theoretical bases and research methods. However, as an emerging discipline, ecolinguistics still has problems such as unclear research objects, unsystematic research methods and ambiguous boundaries of research scope, which await the common attention of the academic community.
