Metaphor, as a rhetoric device, has a broad application in everyday English. This paper discusses metaphors of English words in relation to different styles of music, musical instruments, music as a whole and its different parts, as well as metaphor of action verbs used to describe music.The paper finds that music-related metaphors and their meaning serve as a vehicle for a better understanding of art and everyday life; furthermore, music-related metaphorical expressions make everyday life more vivid, colorful and lively.
