Movie posters are one of the important means of promoting movies and increasing box office revenue, serving the dual function of conveying information and facilitating communication and interaction with the audience. The process of audience engagement with a film poster can be understood as the decoding of a “multimodal language”. This paper takes the poster of the film Her Story as its subject and based on multimodal stylistics, analyzes verbal mode, visual mode, typography, and layout, as well as the relationships between these modes, in constructing the overall meaning of the movie poster’s multimodal text.
