The Construction of Auto-Image in the Translation of Dunhuang Culture from the Perspective of Imagology

In the context of continuous globalization and increasingly close cultural exchanges, translation plays an increasingly important role in the shaping and dissemination of national images. Guided by imagology theory, this study constructs a bilingual parallel corpus of Dunhuang culture and conducts an in-depth analysis of the translation strategies and methods applied to 258 Dunhuang cultural terms. The results indicate that the application of the foreignization strategy accounts for 64.34%, occupying a dominant position. Additionally, hybrid translation,"literal translation+free translation,” and"literal translation+back translation” are widely employed. These translation approaches not only preserve the unique charm of Dunhuang culture but also enhance the acceptability of the translated texts through precise cross-cultural interpretation. The findings suggest that the translation of Dunhuang culture, through linguistic transformation and cultural adaptation, successfully constructs a positive and proactive Chinese auto-image on the international stage, offering new insights and practical references for the global dissemination of Chinese culture.
