文章摘要
John Osborne is one of the most influential modern British playwrights. Look Back in Anger, his masterpiece, started a wave of innovation in British theatre in 1956 and was considered as the representative work of the “Angry Young Man”. As a typical representative of angry youth, Jimmy, the hero of the story, expressed the anger, dissatisfaction, despair and reality of the post-war generation in his own way. Conflicting emotions are a notable feature of the play, even in the title. In this paper, the contradiction of looking back and anger will be discussed and analyzed which can provide the readers with a comprehensive view of the inevitability of the action, looking back in anger, in this play and thus help them better understand the play.
