文章摘要
This article explores the enduring allure of vampires in horror, focusing on their duality as symbols of aristocratic elegance and instinctual bloodlust. This dichotomy reflects the interplay between civilization and the death drive, embodying humanity's unconscious conflict between life and death instincts. While immortality offers eternal life, vampire narratives often depict it as a curse, highlighting anxieties surrounding its desirability. Analyzing Interview with the Vampire (1994), adapted from Anne Rice’s novel, this study examines how the film redefines vampires as emotionally complex beings. Through Louis’ perspective, the narrative delves into guilt, existential despair, and moral conflict, transcending traditional horror conventions. Using Freud's death drive and tripartite personality theory, the article critiques immortality, uncovering its psychological and existential implications.
