文章摘要
Due to the closeness of conception and connotation of image, Zong Baihua's achievement in artistic conception theory is generally regarded as the achievement of image theory. This simplification fails to realize that Zong Baihua always hesitated about the aesthetic nature of image, and avoided the positive and straight-forward words of image theory in his theoretical expression. In fact, Zong Baihua did not put image in the core of the theory of artistic conception. On the contrary, Zong Baihua was aware of the limitations of image thinking earlier, and with the improvement of the understanding of the essence of image, he sublated it in his theory of artistic conception. The result of sublation is that it deprives the image of its connotation of truthfulness and retains its formal value.
