Traditional Chinese opera elements refer to the factors related to traditional Chinese opera that appear in movies, including genres, roles, and singing sections. Among them, 'Farewell My Concubine' is a typical case of contemporary films that incorporate elements of traditional Chinese opera. The film adopts the technique of "play within play", and the elements of traditional Chinese opera contained in "play within play" play a significant role in shaping characters and driving the plot in the film. The relevant production techniques are not only suitable for this film, but also have universal production formulas. This article attempts to analyze the role of traditional Chinese opera elements in character development in the film "Farewell My Concubine", explore the commonalities in the production of stories that incorporate traditional Chinese opera elements, and find reference methods for film arrangement in contemporary film production.
