In recent years, China’s Ministry of Education has set higher standards for aesthetic education in colleges and universities. Because of this, public art courses in regular Chinese colleges have changed in different ways.The United States started promoting public art much earlier. So, public art education in its colleges gets more attention, and its system is more complete.This paper plans to compare two things between comprehensive colleges in China and the U.S.: first, the goals they set for public art education; second, how they design the courses; and third, their evaluation systems. By doing this, it aims to find out what’s similar and what’s different about public art education in the two countries.The study looks at two schools: Wenzhou-Kean University and Kean University (U.S.). By analyzing the course documents from these two schools, we can see the problems and challenges Chinese colleges face when developing public art courses. From this, we can get useful experiences and ideas to help public art education develop better in the future.
