English vocabulary teaching constitutes a vital component of English language instruction. At the senior high school level, vocabulary teaching directly influences students' English learning outcomes. However, in practice, many senior high school English teachers conduct vocabulary instruction in isolation from thematic contexts, while students merely memorize words mechanically and apply them inflexibly. This approach not only exacerbates students' learning burden but also diminishes their enthusiasm and impairs learning efficiency. On the other hand, implementing vocabulary teaching through thematic contexts can enhance students' capabilities in language memorization, comprehension, and application. Taking Unit 3 of the 2019 Edition English (Compulsory Course 3) published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press as an example, this paper analyzes how to carry out unit vocabulary teaching based on the unit theme and in conjunction with the thematic contexts of discourses, so as to improve students' ability to accurately understand and use vocabulary.
