Under the requirements of the new curriculum standards, interdisciplinary teaching has become an important way to cultivate the core competence of senior high school students. As an important part of high school English teaching, English reading can not only improve students’ language ability, but also cultivate students’ cross-cultural communication ability and thinking ability. However, the traditional English reading teaching in senior high school often focuses on the transfer of language knowledge, ignoring the integration and application of interdisciplinary knowledge, which leads to the inadequate development of students’ comprehensive literacy. This study, under the guidance of teaching concepts such as constructivism learning theory, cognitive load theory and content and language integration teaching (CLIL), takes the second unit of compulsory English reading course in high school as an example to carry out interdisciplinary teaching design, in order to improve the effectiveness of reading teaching and promote the cultivation of core competence.
