In recent years, the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology is reshaping the traditional language learning mode. Through large language models (LLMs), multi-modal generation technologies, and personalized algorithms, AI has established a brand-new learning ecosystem for language learners. Large language models can address learners’ puzzles about basic language points instantly, while multi-modal generation technologies can generate diverse data such as texts, images, audios and videos, enabling learners to be immersed in real-life conversations in virtual scenarios. Meanwhile, personalized algorithms can accurately push adaptive learning resources based on learners' levels and learning habits, truly achieving immersive learning and greatly enhancing learners' comprehensive language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This paper will deeply analyze the opportunities brought by AI to language learning from two dimensions: language skill improvement and language learning experience optimization. At the same time, it will also discuss challenges that learners may face in the AI era, such as difficulty in screening large amounts of resources, lack of depth in thinking, excessive personalization and over-reliance on technology, and propose scientific and feasible countermeasures to help language learners achieve efficient and high-quality language learning advancement in the intelligent era.
