The Activity-based Approach to English learning emphasizes that students are the main body of learning and is oriented by activities at different levels in the learning process, serving the ultimate goal of cultivating core competencies. Through the analysis of the thematic context of “Man and Society”, this paper takes a reading text of the compulsory textbook published by FLTRP as an example to explore how to design integrated, relevant and practical English learning activities based on specific thematic contexts. It aims to guide students to explore the theme of the text, acquire language knowledge, exercise thinking quality, enrich cultural awareness and cultivate learning ability, ultimately aiming at the improvement of the core competencies of the English discipline.
