This study focuses on the application of contextual teaching methods in primary school Chinese reading instruction, exploring its connotations and advantages. According to the 2022 edition of the "Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education in Chinese Language", curriculum objectives should center around core competencies, emphasizing "contextuality and practicality," while advocating for a "process-oriented and holistic" evaluation approach. However, current practices indicate that contextual teaching faces challenges such as disconnection from reality, limited methodologies, and separation among “teaching-learning-assessment" processes. To address these issues, this research proposes strategies that integrate real-life contexts, diversify instructional methods, and improve evaluation systems to enhance the quality of reading instruction and promote the comprehensive development of primary students' core competencies.
