English is an important component of the higher education and teaching system, and its importance in the context of global integration is self-evident. By learning English knowledge, students can understand the world, go global, and form a global perspective. However, in the process of deepening global integration, the drawbacks of English teaching in Chinese universities are becoming increasingly prominent, affecting the formation and development of students' thinking abilities and hindering their better mastery of English knowledge. Constructivism is an important theory for knowledge learning and research, emphasizing students' initiative and enthusiasm in learning, affirming their position and role in learning, and requiring teachers to provide students with more opportunities for self-directed learning and practice. Based on this, English teachers in universities should adopt a constructivist perspective, strengthen research on constructivism, and take active and effective measures to continuously improve the English critical thinking ability of college students, so as to enable them to truly become high-quality talents with dual development of English literacy and thinking ability. This article mainly discusses the cultivation of critical thinking ability in college English teaching from the perspective of constructivism, and analyzes the importance of cultivating critical thinking ability in college English teaching from the perspective of constructivism, hoping to provide reference for other college English educators.
